George Kent, Gamuda, Loh & Loh to bid for Langat 2?

George Kent Bhd, the company embroiled in the Ampang LRT Line extension project, may well bid for the Langat 2 water treatment plant along with leading infrastructure groups Gamuda Bhd and Loh & Loh Corporation Bhd.

George Kent, according to Star Biz, has a track record for the Pahang-Selangor raw water transfer project and it quotes an anonymous source as saying that while Gamuda has indicated interest in bidding for the project, it may not do so as it has landed the huge My Rapid Transit project and is also targeting the MRT2 and MRT3 construction.

The source felt the Langat 2 treatment plant should be constructed simultaneously with the ongoing Pahang-Selangor raw water transfer infrastructure, so that water could be transferred from Pahang to Selangor once the structures were completed.

Star Biz also sees the availability of land to be a problem with Langat 2, since the Pakatan Rakyat government of Selangor can use land for the plant to hold back the development order.

‘Project will not kick off soon’

“I don’t know what the conditions are going to be for the tendering process but land issues would crop-up. If the land is not available for the plant construction, it would be tough even if the attorney-general is brought in to push the matter forward,” it quotes an analyst as saying.

A construction sector analyst quoted by Star Biz says it will be great if the government called for a tender but he believes the project will not kick off soon.

While the federal government and the state would have to come to some sort of agreement, both want to be careful in making any move as the public may question the transparency of the project, it said.
