Fauzi Shaari, the former director of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department, the third highest ranking officer in the police force, handed in his membership form to Hadi in Larut last night in front of some 5,000 supporters.
In his speech, Fauzi said he joined PAS to help in the party’s Islamic struggle in the country.
Fauzi however said he had no intention of being a candidate in the upcoming polls.
He added that he came to the decision to join PAS after being convinced that he had not been involved in any criminal activities while in the police force.
Fauzi was known for his tough anti-vice operations during his time as the Dang Wangi police chief, and had once irked a Barisan Nasional minister who criticised him for destroying the country’s tourism industry.
Fauzi, who hails from Perak, said he would help Pakatan Rakyat especially PAS by speaking at its ceramahs.
